Chalk and cheese De La Salle no match for Holmesfield The early pace setters in the Surridge Sport Yorkshire and Derbyshire Cricket League Holmesfield maintained their winning start with a 126 run home defeat of De La Salle. Holmesfield’s total of 219-8 owed much to Pearson’s 70 and Rodgers’ 66 but Howard’s 6-48 prevented further damage. In response De La Salle were bowled out for 93 to cap a chalk and cheese weekend for the visitors. Stanton’s first innings total of 223-9 which included 78 from D, Rosling wasn’t enough to get them off the mark for the season on the road at Hundall. An emphatic run chase was decorated by D. Marsh’s unbeaten 134 and supported by M. Dawson’s also unbeaten 57. It already looks to be another season of struggle for Calver. Hathersage’s 197-7 declared, featuring Kendall’s 59 and S, Hallows’ 5-53, seemed an achievable total but N. Somerton’s 4-25 caused problems for Calver as they were bowled out for 140, despite 65 from Hilton. Collegiate may have thought their 144 all out against Stocksbridge wasn’t going to be enough with Langdale top scoring with 49, but 5-12 from I. Davey went a long way to easing those fears as Stocksbridge crumbled to 79 all out. Parkhead struggled to 98 all out against SWD with Brown capturing 4-50. The run chase however was by no means a formality; Turner’s 4-14 making SWD sweat for their 4 wicket win. It was much more comfortable for Ashford as they posted 204, Carrington helping out with 41*, then the opening pair of Clegg and Marsden ripped through Staffs batting line up. Marsden’s 5-33 and Clegg’s 5-46 impressive as they bowled them out for 88. In Division 2 Chesterfield Barbarians eased to victory against SWD seconds. A first innings total of 206-9 declared, finished off by 57 by P. Daniels was too many for SWD as Hubbard produced arguably the performance of the week taking 7-7 as Works were bowled out for 86. Bakewell’s struggle with the bat continues as Parkhead seconds dismissed them for 94, S. Swain the pick of the bowlers taking 5-23. M. Turner saw Parkhead over the finishing line with an unbeaten 48. Parkhead victorious by 8 wickets. A similar story too for Baslow as they struggled to 111 all out away at De La Salle. The home side made hard work of the run chase however, eventually limping to victory by 2 wickets and Sheepbridge were able to chase down the 119 that Walkley had set them for victory. T. Chambers’ 4-27 succeeding in keeping Walkley to a relatively small total which Sheepbridge bypassed for the loss of only two wickets, G, Whitehead’s 53 playing an important part in the chase.
