Father and son duo lead Bawtry to victory
by Steve Spencer, 12th January 2008

Bawtry and Woodsetts got the Spring League off to a good start with a close fought encounter, Liam Summers making 37 not out, to give Woodsetts a final total of 80 for 6. Father Warren Oates with 17, and son Lewis 28 not out, led Bawtry to an exciting one wicket win. Killamarsh beat last season's champions Clowne by 23 runs and Nomads' Mark Greenslade was unlucky to finish on the losing side after taking four catches in the Cowboys innings of 77 all out. His team were bowled out for 67, Dave Hunt the chief destroyer with 3 for 7.

Calypso Kids look determined to keep their Monday crown holding off a strong challenge by Edwinstowe, Chris Snowdon top scoring with 30 out of 105 all out, despite a fine 33 from opener Paul Benson. The last wicket fell on 96 giving Kids a nine run win.

Some close games on Wednesday with all four games going to the wire. Champs Shirebrook were thankful for the return from injury of all rounder Gas Hall who played his first game for over a year. His 20 not out, and tight bowling, was the difference as his side beat Fiskerton by two wickets.

Tricky Trees could be the team to beat this season after a well matched game saw off the Dragons by 13 runs, and last terms winless Blyth were unlucky not to get off the mark this time round beaten by just seven runs by Teversal.

Another team yet to taste victory is Rose Raptors who played in the Sunday League last season. After a poor start against Walesby, Stuart Bentley led a recovery with 29 and backed up by 20 from Mark Barnett, and 17 from John Charsworth, their final total of 75 all out was at least respectable. When Aaron Wood retired on 20 it looked easy for Walesby but accurate bowling pegged them back and it went to the final over. Wanting only two to win off the final three balls, great bowling by Mark Barnett took the game to the final ball and only a fumble by the wicketkeeper allowed Dave Wager to scramble the winning runs.

Cheers Steve
