Highlights of the second round were Bawtry's three wicket defeat of Clumber Park and Mansfield and Pleasley's comfortable win over Sas Swingers. Play off champions Whitwell looked to be cruising into the next round wanting only one run to win with five balls left and two wickets in hand, but panic set iIn with Cowboys taking the last two wickets for no runs.
Bawtry's fine cup run ended with a 4 wicket defeat at the hands of Thoresby Park. Cowboys' Richard Bostock had to score the last 22 runs on his own to overhaul Bridons modest 91 total, a nd it could have been worse for Bridon if 16 year old Tom Ulyatt had not scored a fine 46 not out. The best of the quarter f inals was the narrow four run win for Sherbert Dabs in a high scoring match. Clowne's brave run chase ended when they r an out of wickets with 3 balls left.
Thoresby started well but ran out of steam, bowled out in only10 overs for 66. It proved no problem for the strong Cowboys side. The other semi was closer, the game going to the last over, Mansfield & Pleasley coming out on top by 2 wickets.
With four overs left and Mansfield & Pleasley's total on 81 it was looking promising, but a great two overs from Cowboys' Adam Burgess for only two runs, backed up by sharp fielding restricted M&P to 92 all out. Cowboys looked to be coasting to victory before a fight back byM&P left Mike Palmer having to score the last two runs batting on his own. A good finish to the knockout cup, with the game being played i n the right spirit.
Well done Cuckney Cowboys - worthy knockout cup champions 2004.
Happy Christmas to all players see you in January.
