Defeat for champions as indoor league kicks off
by Steve Spencer, 17th October 2005

The Sunday league kicked off with Thoresby Park beating last season's champions Mansfield & Pleasley by 2 wickets. Bob Little's Cowboys, minus a couple of star players not available this season, went down to ever improving Woodsetts, and new side Ashover made the top score of the day knocking off MGTs useful 88 all out total.

We are using a new ball this season with more in it for the spinners and a bit more forgiving to fielders fingers, and the umpire's wheelchair. The best game of the night saw Blidworth needing one to win off the last ball. Good fielding by Pilsley ran out Craig Turton and the game ended in an exciting tie.

This season's Thursday league looks to have some well matched sides. The only easy victory was Barmy Army, the first team to break 100 runs in an innings with the new ball. They were helped by suicidal running by the Shireoaks' batsmen, losing four wickets in 7 balls - all ran out.

They never recovered and ended on 35 all out.
